The organ of San Bartolo Soyaltepec is characteristic of 18th century Tlaxcala organs and was surely imported, since it does not resemble Oaxaca-built organs of the same period. Oaxaca 2´ table organs had 45 note keyboards and were usually decorated with religious imagery. Comparable Tlaxcala organs usually had 42-note keyboards, were nearly always unpainted, and decorated with rectangular panels on the case. This organ has double-hinged doors which, when opened, allowed them to lay flat against the sides of the case, facilitating its transport during processions around the extensive atrium of the church. The table had been painted gold and repurposed to carry a statue in a procession; the painted touches on the case date from the 20th century. The triangular top of the organ is missing.
