The organ of San Miguel Tequixtepec originally had a 42-note keyboard, similar to some table organs from Tlaxcala. It may have been bought from a community in Puebla, closer than Oaxaca City, as indicated by the typical decorative square panels on the case. It then would have been modified in Tequixtepec to accommodate three additional notes on the chest and create a standard Oaxaca 45-note keyboard. The organ is extremely tall and the principal rank is divided diatonically between front and back, resulting in a double façade, each with its two doors, as in the organ in Peñoles. The photo of the organ is reversed to show the carving which is missing from the front; the doors and the top are missing as well. The case had been used to store vases and candle sticks before we moved it to a room near the church. In 2013, the IOHIO rebuilt the missing table to raise the organ off the floor.
