A fire destroyed the magnificent organ of San Melchor Yatzachi el Bajo and all the other furnishings of the church in 1997. Only the bellows and some melted deformed pipes remain. Two photos of the organ indicate that it was an extravagant instrument for its time, with eight registers on either side, but unfortunately it was already abandoned and deteriorated at the time of the fire.
